This one took a little bit longer to finish than I had hoped, but so it goes. I decided against titling it for fear of the title being too imposing on the work itself, and titles can get really pretentious really quickly. I had originally had pencil lines delineating the squares but decided to erase them. There were some graphite and oil smears on some of the dripped paint and set about erasing those, and in the process erased the gridded lines. It adds another dimension to the piece I think. A largely grid-influenced painting, but where some line is expected, it's been removed, causing one to pause just that extra moment to see if it were a hallucination or not. I decided not to paint the edges as well because the focus should be on the painting itself, not the edges. Having the edges minimally dripped reinforces that. A reminder of the chaos under the grid.
